MBA Renames Young Bankers Division to Reflect Diverse Range, Experience of Bankers
To reflect the diverse range and experience of individuals working in the banking community, MBA has renamed its Young Bankers Leadership Division to Next Generation in Banking. NextGen is designed for bankers with 20 years or less of financial services experience who are interested in opportunities to further develop skills in leadership, advocacy and volunteerism.
“The name change encompasses employees at MBA-member banks who are new to the industry and those with many years of experience,” said MBA Vice President Emily Lewis. “Although the name is new, our mission remains the same — to enhance and foster the development of Missouri’s next generation of banking professionals.”
NextGen members receive exclusive access to customized education and social events, unique volunteer opportunities and advocacy training. Members also have access to a private LinkedIn group to engage, pose questions and develop relationships with peers and thought leaders within the banking industry.
“We encourage you to share this with your team and invite your colleagues to participate in NextGen,” Lewis said.
NextGen will hold its first event next month. NextGen Day at the Capitol is Wednesday, Feb. 15. This event provides an opportunity for NextGen members to participate in Missouri’s legislative process by making a Target Banker visit to the state Capitol. MBA strongly encourages NextGen members to attend so they can voice their opposition to a credit union bill that would allow a massive expansion to the current field of membership law.
MBA Accepting Applications For Bankers To Serve On Boards, Committees
Bankers can enhance their leadership skills through volunteer opportunities from MBA. Each year, MBA seeks bank employees with a variety of skills and expertise to serve on various committees to increase their engagement with MBA and the banking community.
“Bankers serving on our committees provide a valuable resource to our association and the banking community,” said MBA Vice President Rachael Preston. “Their participation on these boards and committees allows bankers to share their knowledge and expertise with fellow bankers, as well as advise MBA on various issues.”
MBA currently seeks bankers to serve on its boards and committees for the upcoming year (2023-2024). Each offers opportunities to be more engaged with MBA and the banking community. Please review the leadership opportunities and email completed applications to Peggy Mantle by Friday, Feb. 17. MBA appreciates your involvement with the association.
Cleaver Named to House Financial Services Committee
Congressman Emanuel Cleaver has been selected to serve as a member of the House Financial Services Committee. He joins Reps. Blaine Luetkemeyer and Ann Wagner as members of this committee.
“With three Missouri representatives on the House Financial Services Committee, it’s vital that we continue sharing how the banking community serves a significant role in strengthening our economy,” said MBA President Jackson Hataway. “This is critical as Congress pursues its legislative priorities.”
MBA encourages its members to participate in the American Bankers Association Washington Summit scheduled March 20-22 in Washington, D.C.
State Awards Grants for 60 Broadband Expansion Projects
The Missouri Department of Economic Development has awarded a total of $261 million through the ARPA Broadband Infrastructure Grant Program to 60 recipients for projects that expand and improve internet access statewide. Projects receiving funds are expected to create more than 55,000 connections in locations that previously lacked adequate internet access.
“This is a significant investment for rural Missouri communities that will strengthen, support and present greater opportunities for various industries,” said MBA Senior Vice President David Kent.
The ARPA Broadband Infrastructure Grant Program was launched in August 2022 to invest in broadband expansion. The program has awarded competitive grants to a wide range of applicants and has prioritized unserved and underserved areas.
